My Story

I moved to Devon in ‘97 to study Theatre at Dartington College of Arts and went on to spend the next 20 years as a professional musician, singer and song writer. I’ve spent the last twelve years living by the coast in South Devon and gather a lot of inspiration from my beautiful surroundings.

I am a creative clutter-bucket. I hoard things I find pleasing, from old beads and broken jewellery to bits of metal and wood, bottles and pieces of beach plastic and it is from a desire to re-use these things that my passion for making jewellery began.

My bench is cluttered with these finds, alongside tools and sketch books. I start with a rough idea, inspired by something I’ve seen on my walks with my dog Sweet Cheeks or a particular thing that’s caught my eye and then I let the making happen. I find the process very much like song writing in that my jewellery pieces, like songs, sort of arrive.

And i think to myself…………

Jewellery that is unique and didn’t cost the world to make.

I love stuff that shows its age…… driftwood and peeling paint, rusty metals and old wooden doors, sea-glass and skeletal leaves, moss covered stones and ruined buildings, wizened faces and musty books and fleeting things like sunshine on the waves, shadows and ever-changing land and seascapes. Time writes its story across all these things and all these things inspire me and influence my jewellery and metal art.

I use as many re-claimed materials as possible in my work, all the sterling silver is recycled….I love the idea that they already have history and that I can add another chapter.
